The story is well thought out, adventurous and fun - not a lot of stereotypical things happening here which you get in lots of kids books. I'm way past a kid and I couldn't put the book down! Now, I'm just waiting for the sequel (there has to be more of this story!). I always wonder how someone can just invent a new universe... new languages and new landscapes and histories. It takes the story down roads you can't anticipate because it's all new. This book does that really well!If you have young girls in your family and you're tired of giving them books where the girl characters always seem to be an afterthought, this is a great book for you! Good positive story for both genders and many ages - the kids will love it and their parents will love it too (which helps if you are the one reading aloud before bedtime).
Definite good read!

Zorena and the Medallion of Corandu is a refreshing take on the fantasy novel with a woman as the main character. Set in New Hampshire's White Mountains, the novel has punchy dialogue and will appeal to adults and adolescents. If you're looking for fantasy with a feminist twist, Zorena is for you.
